The Baltic option appears to be the best to me. Taking on the Byzantine Empire at this point seems needlessly risky at this point in time. They could be left as rivals for later on when challenging an empire is more realistic.

Apologies for the delayed update, I've been distracted by The Witcher 3
The reason for the Russian conversion to Judaism is largely unknown. At the time Christian and Muslim pressures to convert were light, and there would be little reason to seek out another Monotheistic religion to counter Muslim and Christian missionaries. One theory states that Jews fleeing from persecution in Western Europe arrived in Russia and won the sympathy of the Russian nobility, another that viking raiders captured Jewish people and brought them home, where they then converted their masters. What is known is that in the mid-late 9th century Jewish Norsemen began to arrive in Constantinople to serve in the Varangian Guard, these men likely came from Russia rather than Scandinavia.
The most popular story regarding the conversion comes from a twelfth century scribe, who recorded an account where the Russian King was prevented from sacking the Irish town of Urmuhain by a Jewish woman named Saris. This woman supposedly offered to willing go with the raiders if they left the town in peace. The King miraculously accepted and after many trials and tribulations in the Russian court she manages to convert the Russian King, and thus, Russia.

By the time Alfr takes the throne he already has two sons, Hemming and Ofeig. Rather than vote for his own sons as heir however, Alfr decides to vote for his brother Guğröğr. If Alfr dies an early death there must be someone with the strength to hold the realm together, and currently neither of his children have that strength.

(click to show/hide)
While the realm remains united under Alfr's throne, the lands within the realm have been divided among Alfr's siblings. Guğröğr had already received lands during the reign of their father, and so received nothing during the inheritance. The other two brothers receive the Jarldoms of Vitebsk and Chernigov, leaving Alfr with the capitol and the Kingdom. Alfr's twin sister, Aslaug, received nothing.

(click to show/hide)
The independence faction formed soon after Ofeig's death, hoping to gain support and take advantage of the Kingdoms weakness during the transition to a new ruler. Putiata, the Jarl of Polotsk, leads the faction.

(click to show/hide)
It did not take long for the independence faction to strike. Alfr refused to give in to Putiatia's demands, choosing to fight rather than allow Polotsk to leave the realm.

(click to show/hide)
More rebellions soon followed. While the revel army and Alfr's army clashed in Mstislavl, a peasant revolt began in Roslavl.

(click to show/hide)
The battle of Mstislavl ended in victory, but more men would be needed to suppress the rebellion. Fortunately Alfr's steward was able to raise reinforcements. An additional 300 men were added to the army.

(click to show/hide)
The peasant revolt received a crushing defeat in the battle of Lyubech, effectively removing them as a threat in the civil war.

(click to show/hide)
While Alfr battled against the peasant revolt, the rebels led by Putiata had besieged several provinces, managing to capture Alfr's twin sister, Aslaug. Putiata then forces Aslaug to become his concubine. This rebellion can now only end in one way. The death of Putiata, Alfr will accept nothing less.

(click to show/hide)
Allies from Bergslagen arrive to help crush the rebellion.

(click to show/hide)
The war drags on for years and both allied armies are worn down by skirmishes, sieges, and winter.

(click to show/hide)
Finally, after raising a new army, some children of those who went off to war having come of age, Alfr is able to corner the and destroy the rebel army.

(click to show/hide)
After nearly five years of war Putiata offers to surrender, seeing his position as hopeless. He and his fellow rebels will be imprisoned.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr takes revenge for the abduction of his twin sister by stripping Putiata of all his land and having him executed. Aslaug is safely returned to court. Alfr's wrath shall extend to Putiata's kinsmen, the members of the Dregovich dynasty.

(click to show/hide)
Putiata's punishment extends to his fellow rebel, Igor. While Igor is not executed he is stripped of his land and banished from the realm under pain of death.

(click to show/hide)
Not satisfied with the punishment Putiata endured for the abduction of Aslaug, Alfr extends his wrath to Dobrynia, the chief of Smaleskja. Dobrynia had not joined the rebels, but his shared blood was enough reason for Alfr. Dobrynia was stripped of his land, though he retained his life and was allowed to remain within the realm.

(click to show/hide)
In the years following the war Alfr stocked his council with capable men. Two of his brothers, Bertil and Guğröğr, held two of the most important seats on the council. Frirek, his rivalry with Ofeig not extending down to Alfr, is made Spymaster once again, supplanting Alvör.

(click to show/hide)
With the internal matters of the realm settled, Alfr looked outward towards the Kingdom of Lithuania. War is declared and the armies of Könugardr march for the Baltic.

(click to show/hide)
The allies of Bergslagen are called in once more. The men who remained behind when Eirikr migrated to Russia have proven to be worthy allies, and have even managed to expand their realm in Scandinavia, having outlasted the Danish state, which is a mere shadow of its former self.

(click to show/hide)
A great army is sent to besiege the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.

(click to show/hide)
After the fall of the capital the army pursues the Lithuanian army for half a year before finally catching them in the western region of Lithuania.

(click to show/hide)
They stand no chance. With the destruction of the Lithuanian army and the occupation of their capital, the Lithuanians have no choice but to accept Alfr as their new King.

(click to show/hide)
The realm of Könugardr following the conquest of Lithuania.

(click to show/hide)
The Lithuanians immediately start plotting against Alfr. The former King of Lithuania is the most powerful member of the faction.

(click to show/hide)
Rather than allowing them to make the first move, Alfr attempts to revoke the Jarldom of the former King of Lithuania. He refuses and a second war begins.

(click to show/hide)
The rebel Lithuanian army is engaged in Vilnius. The rematch goes no better for them and the rebellion is crushed. The former King of Lithuania is stripped of all of his lands.

(click to show/hide)
The oldest son of King Alfr turns out pretty well. If the vassals cooperate and vote for him he could make a fine King one day.

(click to show/hide)
He is promptly married to the daughter of the Grand Chief of Saxony to renew the old Saxon alliance.

(click to show/hide)
New from the south! The Byzantine Emperor has recognized the prowess of Norse warriors and formed the Varangian Guard. Hopefully those warriors who depart to serve in the guard will return with riches in tow.

(click to show/hide)
Alas, the line of Alfhildr has failed to provide a great spymaster. Both Alvör and Gunnhildr had been illegitimate, perhaps their skill at intrigue merely came from being born of intrigue. Alvör's son however, is legitimate and thus did not inherit his lines skill. While the line has failed to provide a spymaster, they are still granted land as recognition for past service. Styrbjorn is given the Jarldom of Lithuania. While the line may no longer serve as spymasters they may yet serve as loyal vassals.

(click to show/hide)
Khazaria has completely collapsed. Where once there was a great kingdom there are now a collection of disunited tribes.

(click to show/hide)
It seems Alvör had one last trick to play. So much for the line serving as loyal vassals. Her attempt to rescue the child from prison failed, and Alvör will now serve out her remaining days in jail. The child she attempted to rescue was ransomed soon afterwards. So ends the last spymaster of Alfhildr's line.

(click to show/hide)
Using boats from the new Lithuanian holdings, Alfr leads a raid on far away Ireland. During the sacking of Urmuhain and old woman named Saris is captured. Alfr takes her as a concubine to keep him company on the long voyage back to Könugardr.

(click to show/hide)

During the voyage Saris tells Alfr about Judaism. By the time they have reached Könugardr's Baltic Coast King Alfr has converted.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr travels the realm and converts his siblings and many of his most powerful vassals to Judaism. A few low level vassals cling to the old ways, but the vast majority of the nobility has converted.

(click to show/hide)
A new culture has emerged in the capital of Könugardr, a fusion of the native slavic peoples and the norse settlers. This new culture is known as Russian. Surely it will not catch on.

(click to show/hide)
One Dregovich escaped Alfr's purge back near the beginning of his reign. By now Alfr's rage has cooled, and he sees Vysheslav as an asset to use rather than an enemy to destroy. Currently Könugardr is the only Jewish realm in the world, and is surrounded by the Norse, Finnic, Slavic, Baltic, and Tengri pagans, as well as the Orthodox Christian Byzantine Empire to the south. This leaves Könugardr rather short on reliable allies. Fortunately, Poland is currently in the middle of a succession war, leaving the open an opportunity for a third contender. Of course, Alfr will be doing Vysheslav no favors by making him King of Poland. He'll be a foreign culture and an unknown religion taking over a country without his own army to back up his claim once Alfr has placed him on the throne. If he can survive however, a neighboring Jewish state would be a great asset. Alfr declares war on Poland.

(click to show/hide)
The neighboring realm of Yatvingia decides to attack while the armies of Könugardr are occupied with the war with Poland.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr redirects the army from Poland to defending against Yatvingia. The enemy armies are swiftly defeat and thrown back across the border. Rather than pressing the advantage and taking the war into Yatvingian territory, Alfr decides to sign a white peace in order to preserve the army for the continuation of the war with Poland.

(click to show/hide)
The army is split into several groups so as not to overstrain the carrying capacity of the provinces. Hunger can be just as deadly an enemy as the enemy themselves. The Polish army is depleted after fighting their other succession war. They attempt to break the siege at Sacz. They are defeated and pushed back. The sieges continue.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr's armies manage to occupy the eastern provinces. The Polish army again attempts to lift the siege at Sacz, but with the armies freed up after completing their sieges  they are able to come to the aid of the beleaguered army in Sacz, utterly crushing the Polish army. With their eastern provinces captured and the army destroyed, Poland is forced to surrender and acknowledge Vsheslav as their rightful sovereign.

(click to show/hide)
Unfortunately Vysheslav suffered a crushing blow to the head during the war, leaving him in a coma. His crowning was carried out privately, with just a few witnesses to affirm that he had been crowned King of Poland. It would be up to his regent to attempt to hold the realm together with a non responsive King.

(click to show/hide)
Unfortunately Vysheslav's son and heir and regent is not the most capable of men. It is almost certain that either he or his father will be quickly ousted from their throne.

(click to show/hide)
While Judaism has caught on among the nobility, it has failed to spread among the peasantry, who instead prefer to cling to their old ways. A group of such Slavic peasants, dissatisfied with foreign rulers who follow this strange new god, revolt.

(click to show/hide)
Hearing of the revolt in Minsk, a group of Baltic peasants begin their own revolt in Riga.

(click to show/hide)
The slavic peasants decided to divide their army, leaving them as easy pickings for Alfr's superior force.

(click to show/hide)
Unfortunately the rebellion was only beginning as more peasants joined the slavic revolt, this time in the realms most northernmost province.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr puts out a call for more soldiers, using his prestige to rally more men to his banner. The army is marched north to defeat the Slavic revolt before it can grow any larger. The main battle between Alfr's forces and the rebels actually takes place outside the realm, in the neighboring Kingdom of Rus. Fortunately the Rus are Finnic pagans, and they refuse to come to the aid of the rebels.

(click to show/hide)
The Rus watch from their walls as the rebels are destroyed. During the battle Alfr improves his understanding of tactics, learning to use the weather against his opponents. He comes to be known as The Winter Soldier. The rumor that he possess a metal army is of course false, its merely heavily armored.

(click to show/hide)
With their defeat outside the Rus capital, the Slavic revolt is defeated. Their leaders are captured, and their followers are left to attempt to find their own way home, after having a finger chopped off to ensure that they will no longer be able to use weapons, hopefully preventing them from revolting again.

(click to show/hide)
The Baltic revolt is crushed soon afterwards as well. They receive the same treatment.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr's youngest son asks for permission to join the Varangian Guard, apparently fighting against rebels is not enough for him, and he desires more action. Permission is granted. Hopefully he can learn some useful lessons in the Varangian Guard, he'll need them if he wants to successfully rule, as he is not the smartest of individuals.

(click to show/hide)
Attention is turned back to Poland following the defeat of the rebels, and it is discovered that Poland isn't looking so good. They are embroiled in two separate civil wars and two different invasions. Perhaps placing a Dregovich on the throne of Poland was actually a roundabout way of continuing Alfr's vendetta against them.

(click to show/hide)
In other news, Holy Shit. The Byzantine Empire has successfully reunited must of the East and Western Roman Empires. Only the areas controlled by the Muslims, and Britannia, remain beyond their grasp. However, they are embroiled in a massive civil war, but still.

(click to show/hide)
It turns out that the Byzantine Emperor's mother was the daughter of Charlemagne, and he inherited a claim from her and pressed it. Unfortunately the Empires will probably not remain united, as Francia follows an elective succession law. The Frankish dukes are unlikely to elect another Greek as an Emperor.
For a brief time however, Akakios will have surpassed even Justinian.

(click to show/hide)
The Kingdom of Poland has been destroyed, a handful of dukes and counts have picked up the pieces and now rule without answering to any higher authority. Fortunately the Jewish Kings were able to convert some of their vassals during their brief rule. While a neighboring Jewish Kingdom would be preferable, a powerful duchy and some counts are better than nothing. Perhaps they can even conquer the Poles who failed to convert and reunite the Kingdom of Poland as a Jewish realm.

(click to show/hide)
Perhaps we were foolish to leave Scandinavia behind. The Danes have been defeated, and Bergslagen has created the Kingdom of Sweden, succeeding where Ragnar failed decades earlier. Hopefully out kinsmen in Sweden will be able to last longer than the Danes.

(click to show/hide)
Alvör's betrayal was one thing, at the time she held no real power, but now her son, who was given much of Lithuania and who refused to convert to Judaism had rallied the other pagans of Lithuania and raised his flag in revolt.

(click to show/hide)
Fortunately the soldiers provided by southern Lithuania are too few to compete against the northern Lithuania and the rest of Könugardr. Their main army barely manages to dent Aflr's army while being massacred themselves.

(click to show/hide)
In the middle of the war Alfr's son Sturla returns home, having served in the Varangian Guard for the past several years. He returns with a scar and combat experience. His successful service has also granted him great respect and given him contacts in the great Byzantine city of Miklagard, or as the Greeks call it, Constantinople.

(click to show/hide)
The leader of the rebellion dies during the war, leaving his one year old son holding the plate. Peace is quickly arranged with the regent and the child is stripped of land.

(click to show/hide)
The land is instead granted to Natan, a new arrival at court. He fled to Könugardr to escape persecution in Western Europe.

(click to show/hide)
Shortly afterwards Alfr must deal with a family issue. He chooses to keep the child and leave his daughter unpunished.

(click to show/hide)
Shortly afterwards Alfr dies. Könugardr goes to his older brother Guğröğr, the vassals refusing to elect Alfr's son Hemming.

(click to show/hide)
Instead Hemming received the Kingdom of Lithuania, splitting the realm in two.

So converting to Judaism was easier than expected, we were fortunate to capture Saris in the siege. She was the only Jewish woman in the world, and seeing as Semien has been destroyed Jewish women weren't exactly going to get generated any time soon.

I could have formed a merchant republic during Alfr's reign, but decided not too. Converting from a tribal government to a republic would rob us of much of our manpower and leave us vulnerable to invasion by all out neighbors. We should probably try to convert other neighboring realms to Judaism before attempting to form a Republic. Holding Lithuania and Könugardr together until then will be annoying.

I'm also pretty impressed with the Byzantines. Normally they don't end up doing much and here they've pretty much reunited the Roman Empire. Of course they can't actually reform the Roman Empire because they need some provinces in Muslim held territory to do that, but it was still impressive. Its a shame it won't last though do to the elective laws of Francia.

There aren't really any choices to make this time, so any advice or comments?

The conversion to Judaism was not embraced by the Russian peasantry at first. The period appears to have been one of discord, as the newly Jewish rulers fought against their Pagan subjects. At times it seems that the war spread across the borders of the Russian Kingdom as well. Old stories of war between pagans and the Russian Jews survive in the areas of old Poland and Bohemia. Records recovered from the Byzantine Exarchate of Germania lend credence to these stories, as they refer to the collapse of the neighboring Polish state in the midst of religious warfare.
- From The History of the Medieval Rus, by Alexei Baryshev, Moscow University, 1973.

(click to show/hide)
Guğröğr, the older brother of the previous King Alfr. He's already quite old; his reign will likely not be a long one.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr's son, Hemming, was given the Kingdom of Lithuania during the succession. Once again the realm is divided. His army is quite small however, a mere 153 men comapred to Guğröğr's 4000.

(click to show/hide)
This state of affairs can only end one way; the reunification of the realm, by force. Guğröğr presses his claim on the Kingdom of Lithuania. The army begins to gather in Minsk.

(click to show/hide)
Due to another inheritance around the time of the declaration of war, the Jarldom of Polotsk acquires a new ruler, one who serves the Kingdom of Lithuania. Minsk and Orsha are part of the inheritance, and thus switch sides. The poor people of Minsk suddenly find themselves assaulted by their former allies, as their lord joins Hemming in the war against Guğröğr. The war then begins with the siege of Minsk. The betrayal is made all the worse, as the man who switched sides is Guğröğr's youngest brother, Eirikr.

(click to show/hide)
Once Minsk falls Guğröğr gives chase to the smaller Lithuanian army. The Lithuanian army is finally trapped in Kurland, and Guğröğr's larger force attacks. The Lithuanian force is larger than the expected 153 men, but they are still no match for Guğröğr's army.

(click to show/hide)
With the Lithuanian army destroyed in Kurland the Könugardian army returns to eastern Lithuania, capturing every settlement they come across. The Lithuanian's manage to raise another small force in an attempt to resist the marauding army.

(click to show/hide)
This force is caught by Guğröğr's army as well. Despite being led by their King in battle, the Lithuanians are defeated once again.

(click to show/hide)
The leader of the Lithuanian right flank in the battle was none other than Guğröğr's traitorous brother, Eirikr. In the closing stages of the battle he is captured. He will remain in prison for the rest of the war, Guğröğr will not kill his own brother.

(click to show/hide)
Sensing an opportunity the Tengri peasants in the former Magyar territory rebel, hoping to regain their independence. Guğröğr decides to concentrate on the war with Lithuania, leaving the rebels to deal with later.

(click to show/hide)
The Lithuanians are joined by an army from Alania, one of the Khazar successor states. They fare no better than the Lithuanian's in battle against Guğröğr. They do however bring new tactics with them, tactics that contribute to the knowledge pf war in Könugardr.

(click to show/hide)
Guğröğr's wife, Dantua, sent a puppy to keep Guğröğr company while campaigning. He graciously accepts.

(click to show/hide)
He names the puppy Hunter.

(click to show/hide)
The puppy grows quickly, even while on the campaign trail with Guğröğr. It proves to be good company.

(click to show/hide)
The old King's younger son, Sturla appears to gave let himself go after his return from the Varangian Guard. He is now the Jarl of Kurland. The armies of Könugardr return to the site of their victory in Kurland at the beginning of the war, this time to besiege the province.

(click to show/hide)
Guğröğr has always enjoyed hunting. Unfortunately he has little time for it currently, due to the war, but he has scouts attempts to find The White Bear for him to hunt when he returns home.

(click to show/hide)
Speaking of home, while Guğröğr was fighting the war in Lithuania the Tengri revolt was conquering their way up the Dnieper river. Even the capitol of Könugardr had fallen before them. This finally got Guğröğr attention, and he redirected his army out of Lithuania in order to deal with the rebel threat. The two armies met in Turov.

(click to show/hide)
And Guğröğr emerged as the victor. The rebel army remained, but the back of their rebellion was broken. It was just a matter of mopping up the pieces. Soon the rebellion was finished.

(click to show/hide)
The war with Lithuania ended soon afterwards. While it was by no means a hard war, it did last much longer than expected.

(click to show/hide)
the realm is reunited under Guğröğr's rule. Guğröğr was merciful, he allowed Hemming to keep some land in Lithuania

(click to show/hide)
Now that he's home Guğröğr his finally able to indulge in his favorite past time, hunting.

(click to show/hide)
The hunt begins.

(click to show/hide)
More friends are always good. This Anlaufr is invited to court.

(click to show/hide)
Alas the hunt was a disappointment. The White Bear eludes Guğröğr.

(click to show/hide)
Poland continues to be consumed by chaos. Unfortunately the powerful Jewish Duchies have collapsed and the slavic pagans have begun to reverse the course. The nearby Kingdom of Bohemia has also been taking advantage of the chaos by invading some of the Polish counties.

(click to show/hide)
The peasants continue to cling to the old ways, defying the Jewish nobility. An army of Germanic pagans begins an uprising in Turov.

(click to show/hide)
They are swiftly engaged in battle and the rebellion is crushed.

(click to show/hide)
Hunter is a hit at court, loved by children and the new courtier, Anlaufr, alike.

(click to show/hide)
Another Jewish man fleeing Western Europe arrives in the court of Guğröğr.

(click to show/hide)
The Byzantine Empire has managed to retain much of their territory in Western Europe. The newly elected Emperor of Francia only rules the Kingdom of France and much of Aquitaine. Other portions remained under Byzantine control, having been crushed in an independence revolt after the election, the power of the Byzantine armies preventing them from seceding like the rest of France. Italy and Germany also remain as a part of the Byzantine Empire.

(click to show/hide)
These warriors should be put to use.

(click to show/hide)
Alfr's attempt to form an allied Jewish state in Poland had failed. Guğröğr decides to try a different course, conquest. The warriors raised by the steward join with the rest of Guğröğr's army. The county of Sacz falls immediately. The army moves north from Sacz and passes by the Jewish county of Sandomierz and begins a siege in Czersk.

(click to show/hide)
Czersk offers little resistance as well and is conquered within a month. It isn't until the army reaches Plock that a response is organized. One of the slavic nobles of Poznan had managed to raise a massive force of dissatisfied countrymen and drive out their Jewish Lord. Having thus freed their own lands they moved to help Plock defend against Guğröğr.

(click to show/hide)
They defeat Guğröğr's army, forcing a retreat into Lithuania.

(click to show/hide)
Guğröğr responds by using his prestige to call even more soldiers to his banner, supplementing his beleaguered army. Nearly 3000 men from allied Sweden arrive as well, giving Guğröğr the numbers to challenge the new army from Poznan.

(click to show/hide)
The two armies soon meet again. The army from Poznan had pressed their advantage by invading the counties near Plock. They are caught shortly after completing the siege of Yatvyagi. The joint Swedish-Könugardian army managed to catch them by surprise, and no commanders were assigned to their center or left wings before the battle began. Despite this oversight they managed to hold their ground in those flanks well enough, it was their right flank that suffered as their opponents, the Swedish-Könugardian left flank, comprised a full half of their army. They quickly smashed the Poznan right then wheeled about to drive their center and right from the field.

(click to show/hide)
Giving a victory to Guğröğr.

(click to show/hide)
As before Guğröğr brings his dog on the campaign. Its presence lifts his depression, allowing him to devote his full energies to the war effort, and later to ruling.

(click to show/hide)
The war did not last much longer; while the army of Poznan had been hunted down and destroyed, a second massive army under the flag of the united kingdoms of Bohemia and Pomerania arrived along with an army from another of the Khazar successor states. Caught between these two armies Guğröğr sought peace with Plock. The terms were a white peace, Plock would remain independent and Guğröğr would not be obligated to pay reparations. The peace having been signed the enemy armies left before they could destroyed Guğröğr's army. Guğröğr's dreams of adding Poland to the Kingdom are dashed. While two counties have been taken, Sacz and Czersk, the resistance from Bohemia and the other Polish states make any further conquest almost impossible.

(click to show/hide)
Tensions had risen between Saxony and Könugardr owing to the Kingdom of Könugardr's abandonment of the old gods and adoption of Judaism. The old alliance was not able to survive the conversion and soon Saxony declared war, hoping to find Könugardr weakened after its foiled conquest of Poland. Their target was the county of Galindia.

(click to show/hide)
The Saxons moved quickly and took Galindia before moving on to Yatvyagi. Unfortunately for Saxony the peace at the close of the previous war had left Guğröğr's army intact. While the Swedes refused to assist in this war, the armies of Könugardr were large enough on their own to stand up against Saxony. They moved to lift the siege of Yatvyagi.

(click to show/hide)
Battle is joined. The Saxon left crumbles before the Könugardian right.

(click to show/hide)
The rest of the Saxon army soon follows. In the chaos following the battle one of their leaders is captured. He is quickly ransomed back, increasing the coffers of Könugardr.

(click to show/hide)
The Könugardian army retakes Galindia and soon afterwards is attacked by a second Saxon army, seeking to reverse their losses.

(click to show/hide)
The attempt does not end well for Saxony, and they are forced to make peace, paying an exorbitant sum to Könugardr as war reparations.

(click to show/hide)
The beast is spotted again! With no other enemies to fight at the moment, Guğröğr indulges in his passion for hunting.

(click to show/hide)
Unfortunately the attempt to find The White Bear is fruitless once again. Guğröğr blames himself for the failure.

(click to show/hide)
Eleven years after receiving his dog Guğröğr finally decides to actually train it. He aims to disprove the saying that you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

(click to show/hide)
Another rebellion begins in the middle of Hunter's training. Fortunately this is a small rebellion.

(click to show/hide)
It is quickly caught and easily crushed.

(click to show/hide)
with the sole exception of Sandomierz all of the Jewish rulers in Poland have been overthrown. A Jewish man still rules in Kujawy, but he is subject to the Duke of Kalisz. The Bohemian's have continued to take advantage of the Polish chaos and have seized yet more land for themselves.

(click to show/hide)
The steward manages to raise more soldiers for Guğröğr.

(click to show/hide)
An enemy presents itself immediately. Bohemia declares an invasion, seeking to take the Polish province of Sacz, now called Sandez, that had been taken by Guğröğr in the earlier war.

(click to show/hide)
Playing with hunter continues to benefit Guğröğr, even when on the warpath.

(click to show/hide)
The Bohemian takes Sandez and Peremyshyl before Guğröğr can assemble a response. More soldiers are coming from the north to reinforce the Bohemian army.

(click to show/hide)
They are caught and annihilated before they can link up with the main Bohemian force.

(click to show/hide)
A strategy of allowing the Bohemian army to exhaust itself by besieging counties while the Könugardian picks off reinforcements is adopted. While the main force sieges its way towards the capitol, a smaller force led by the King of Bohemia and Pomerania follows behind. This army is ambushed by the larger Könugardian one.

(click to show/hide)
The battle is quick and decisive, and ends with the capture of the enemy King. With him in captivity a peace is enforced and the main Bohemian army is forced to turn around before they ever get a chance to encounter the Könugardian army.

There is little reprieve from the fighting however, as a rebellion soon begins among the Baltic peasants in Lithuania.

They are followed shortly afterwards by a slavic revolt in the areas the Bohemian's had passed through during their campaign. No doubt they incited the peasants to revolt during their retreat.

The army moves against the Baltic revolt first, easily putting them down before heading south to end the Slavic one.

The new Russian culture, a blending of the Norse and native Slavic peoples, continues to spread.

The constant putting down of rebellions has taken its toll on Guğröğr. His kindness is at an end.

The Slavic rebels are caught in Sandez and crushed, just as the Baltic ones before them.

Guğröğr has learned the Russian language during his long rule, he now decides to adopt it as his official language, as well as adopting Russian customs and methods of dress in the hope that having a ruler who shares their culture will forestall further rebellions.

Thus Guğröğr decrees that Könugardr will hence force be known by its Russian name, Ruthenia.

The steward comes under suspicion of stealing gold from Guğröğr.

The suspicions turn out to be correct. Over his years in office the steward had stolen vast sums of gold, all of which he was no ordered to pay back, resulting in quite the windfall for Guğröğr's coffers.

And with that affair set in order, Guğröğr finally dies at the age of 75.

In a violation of tradition, the new King is not a close relative of any previous King. Before Refil, the elected King was always either the son or brother of the previous King. Refil is neither. He is quite charismatic however, which counts just as much as blood ties it would seem.

Instead he is the great grandson of King Ofeig.

A different look at the family tree.

This time the Kingdoms of Ruthenia and Lithuania remained united. Instead all the lands to the south of the Pripyat river and east of the Dnieper, with the exception of Korsun and Könugardr, were given to Guğröğr's son, Karl, who was made the Jarl of Turov and Galich.

Karl of course styles himself as a King, and will surely attempt to retake his fathers Kingdoms.

Finally, the cultural breakdown of the Kingdom. Russian culture is spreading, the old Volhynian culture is quickly dying out as it becomes Russian. Severian and Ilmenian have proven to be more resistant thus far.

I did not expect Guğröğr to last as long as he did. I was expecting Maybe a 5 year reign at most, instead he ruled for 19 years.

I'm also impressed with the Byzantines ability to hold onto much of their new territory. While a giant blob is always annoying, at least its a lot more interesting than Francia owning France, Germany, and Italy in perpetuity. If the Byzantines manage to hang on they could prove to be interesting endgame opponents.

Suggestions or comments?
Are the more of some things you want to see and less of others? Should I cut out a lot of the rebellions and put in more events? Less war? More war?

Also apologies for the slow updates, I still have not beaten The Witcher 3.
